How much oil is coming out of Iraq??? who pumps it, who transports it, who refines it, where doesthe money go?

Only about 3% of US oil comes form Iraq!!!

April 2007 Import Highlights: Released on June 22, 2007

Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in April 2007 has been released and it shows that three countries have each exported more than 1.40 million barrels per day to the United States. Including those countries, a total of four countries exported over 1.00 million barrels per day of crude oil to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 68 percent of United States crude oil imports in April while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 88 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top sources of US crude oil imports for April were Canada (1.909 million barrels per day), Mexico (1.460 million barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1.458 million barrels per day), Venezuela (1.182 million barrels per day), and Nigeria (0.891 million barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (0.562 million barrels per day), Algeria (0.530 million barrels per day), Angola (0.514 million barrels per day), Russia (0.269 million barrels per day), and Brazil (0.175 million barrels per day). Total crude oil imports averaged 10.181 million barrels per day in April, which is a decrease of 0.167 million barrels per day from March 2007.

Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum in April, exporting 2.479 million barrels per day to the United States, which was an increase from last month (2.305 thousand barrels per day). The second largest exporter of total petroleum was Mexico with 1.572 million barrels per day.How much oil is coming out of Iraq??? who pumps it, who transports it, who refines it, where doesthe money go?
At first, it was Halliburton that was managing Iraq's oil right after the war started. When the Iraqi government formed, they turned the project over to LOI, Logistics Oil International, a British company that oversaw operations. I don't know who manages it now. The money goes to Iraq's government (I think), don't know where it went to under Halliburton or LOI.How much oil is coming out of Iraq??? who pumps it, who transports it, who refines it, where doesthe money go?
lots, millions of dollars worth every day, but who knows where its going. HINT bush%26amp;co. didnt drag all those poor soldiers out there for nothing!!! HINT 2: why do you think the iraqi president, who is no more than a puppet, receives a paycheck of 2,5 million every month( BUSH GETS 600 THOU.) POOR KID.

How to refine (car, truck vehicle...etc) used black oil?

I do not believe that it will be economically worthwhile to do this. You may filter the oil but some of the oil molecules has been chemically changed and a filter will not remove them.

Comparing the cost of the damage to your motor to buying new oil I will say buy the oil.How to refine (car, truck vehicle...etc) used black oil?
The viscosity of the oil is the most important part of oil. the sediment is not what makes you need to change your oil. As the oil is heated, and exposed to slight amounts of water in the fuel, it begins to hydrolyse, and loose its viscosity. This cannot be fixed.

However, used oil can be used in other industry which is why it should be recycled, and not thrown away. How to refine (car, truck vehicle...etc) used black oil?
You can't. Some people think that it you let the oil rest for a week that all the grime will solidify at the bottom of the container and the oil is good as new. But that's just B.S. Don't be cheap. You'll screw up your vehicle if you do it enough times.
Only way to re-refine it, is to basically send it back through the refining process (used oil is actually cleaner then what it actually was refined from in the beginning) so its why if you see re-refined oil being sold, its dirt cheap...

theres no way to do it at home......, not only will you have fuel and water condensation that you can't get out at home.... what about the additives in the oil? They wear out and need replacing.... zinc, moly, boron, etc etc.....

Is there a gas station in the U.S. that derives it's oil from U.S. sources and refines it in the U.S.?

It used to be nearly 40% and now it is around 33% of the oil used in the U.S. comes from the U.S..

Over two-thirds oil is NOT from OPEC.

2005:

OPEC: 4,816(Thousand of barrels a day)

NON-OPEC: 5,310

U.S. oil: 5,178

Yes, Phillips 66 get their oil from Oklahoma and Texas. Is there a gas station in the U.S. that derives it's oil from U.S. sources and refines it in the U.S.?
i'm the first one who answered your question.

no most of oil is drained out from muslim countries.

and usa is a hungry dog for oil.

  • Why doesn't the U.S. refine all of it's own oil?

Why do we send millions of barrels of oil to the mideast to be refined and then buy it back at a premium?

Why not just refine our oil own oil into gasoline?

Wouldn't that make the price of gas really low?

Please base your answers on facts....not only on opinion.

Thanks! Why doesn't the U.S. refine all of it's own oil?
America does not have enough refineries. Democrats voted against building refineries.

99% of Republicans supported a law for allowing refineries to be built and 92% of Democrats voted against it.

Currently, America is importing gasoline because there are not enough refineries in America. That is a national security issue.

If the price of one barrel crude oil $100, what wil be the apprx price of refined 1 litr diesel & 1 litr petro?

With 158.99 litres in a $100 US barrel it is 37p per litre crude.

At the moment it is $78 US barrel, this is less at 29p per litre/

Why can't we explore for more oil, find it, and refine it for America's use?

...It is affecting us in many ways. It used to be that small, ';unsafe at any speed'; cars were not the norm; now they are. We are expected and pushed to drive cars that are smaller and smaller, and I'll bet $5.00 to a doughnut they are not nearly as safe, no matter how many airbags they contain. Our lawmakers want to increase the mpg, forcing our car makers to decrease the price of a vehicle, and up the price.

...No new oil refinery has been built in 30 years, but American has grown in population and businesses; both are dependent on oil.

...Oil was to be extracted in Alaska, in a minute area. Fears that the Alaskan pipeline and damage to the caribou proved unfounded - the caribou are thriving. So why can't we go after it?

    ...Are the environmentalists winning?

...Your courteous answer, please? Why can't we explore for more oil, find it, and refine it for America's use?
Yes, the environmentalists are winning based only on their hysterical doomsday prophecies. There are VAST amounts of oil in Alaska. Where do you people get your facts? We need to drill there and we need to refine it ourselves and we need to do it now. How high does gas have to go before you say enough is enough? The technology isn't there yet for us to stop using oil. When it is, I'll be first in line to buy an electric or hydrogen powered car,(that's affordable and runs longer than a couple of hours).Until then, we need to produce our own gas. Let's stop screwing around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why can't we explore for more oil, find it, and refine it for America's use?
SMALL CARS ARE VERY SAFE IF THEY ARE ALL SMALL..THE PROBLEM IS PEOPLE ARE TO FAT TO FIT ANYMORE..SO EXCEPT HIGH PRICES
Hello? it's 2008 and we've been looking for about 100 years. The USA or any gov't doesn't control or limit the Oil Industry -- which is multi-national, and has done what it wants/needs to get the oil forever... if its was worth the investment, it would already be done. (Environmentalist? what about realists?)

The USA has been through Nuclear Power as an alternative for about 50 of these years. We've delayed Solar Power for about 30-40 easily.. and cars were proven capable of running on many other options... although patents have been bought %26amp; disappeared faster than you can say ';where'd they put that thing at the end of the 'Indiana Jones' movie?'; Your answer is -- you are dealing with smoke %26amp; mirrors... because if there WAS vast oil reserves there, you'd be sure we'd have ALREADY a pipleline (like the one that exists!)... like we have huge pumps across the Gulf of Mexico and off the west coast...

Come on. The time for this has passed.. you believe something that's more ';look at the pretty balloon'; than a sound policy alternative... don't be fooled. It's 2008. You should be more alert, to these things. Most homes in the USA should have solar-powered heating.. and we should be driving cars that run as easily as your calculator, as soon as you take it out of the drawer. Gas is a Cash Cow.. for many, many people... its nearing $110 a barrel, because they realized there wasn't ';too much noise'; over it, when it went over $100 with constancy (for the 1st time in history).

Big Oil doesn't need this exploration.

It's just smoke %26amp; mirrors, for you and us.
Oil isn't the way to go, its dirty, its choking the environment and there is only so much left discovered or not.

We already have the technology to go electrical.

We also have the option to run our cars on methane and diesel substitutes.

Or we could just ban cars from cities and use man-powered vehicles instead. There would be less pollution, less accidents, healthier citizens...etc.
Costs less to have Arabs do it. It strictly has to do with where do the corporations make the most money. No loyalties are involved when it comes to money. If they drill for more oil here and Communist China wants to pay more than others for it then they will sell the American oil to the Communists. Most of Alaska's oil already goes to Asia.
    ';...forcing our car makers to decrease the price of a vehicle, and up the price.';

    Huh?!?

First of all, back in the early 90's, when I was shopping for my first car, most of the cars I looked at got between 28 and 32 mpg. There were even cars that got near 40 mpg! Now, I'm shopping for a new car and I can't find a car that gets over 20 mpg. And the cars are more than twice as expensive.

And some of us prefer a smaller car. There's absolutely nothing unsafe about small cars, other than driving around the idiots in big SUV's and minivans with the phone glued to their ears and no attention span.

But what America, and the rest of the world really needs to do is devote more money and effort into finding alternative energy sources. We don't need ';more oil';. We need something other than oil - preferably something renewable.
The problem is that the easy oil has all been found, the amount of oil in Alaska for example is relatively modest and even if tapped wouldn't do much. And demand for oil from the developing countries like China is skyrocketing, so what is on the international market isn't going to help us.

Now if you follow the news, the USA has been making major efforts the last five years to open up the huge oil fields in Iraq to USA oil companies, but so far it's not been as successful as was hoped in some quarters. Even our Iraqi quisling government refuses to sign the papers giving us their oil at cut rates.

At one point we thought we had a lot of oil in central Asia locked up, but that is looking iffy as well because of the de facto Chinese-Russian-Iranian alliance.

We are going to see more oil exploration in the arctic and antarctic, but baring some amazing and unexpected discovery somewhere, there isn't enough easy oil left to exploit. Has little to do with ecologists, and even then, you want to be realistic about it....by preserving some of the oil in Alaska...that means that oil is still there when we REALLY need it.

IE I'd prefer we save some oil in case we need it to keep the air force and navy going just in case we actually need them some future decade?

Conservation is the easiest way to fix this problem, there is no CHEAP way to increase supply.
smaller cars are only rated as not as safe when they are on the road with the over-large SUV's and trucks that have become far too popular. 80% of the SUV's/trucks out there are empty, not used for hauling people or goods, if people only drove what they needed, then the cars would be plenty safe. Where do you suggest we explore for oil? there aren't a whole lot of unexplored areas that havene't already been tapped. And why concentrate on finding more of that resource when we KNOW that is isn't renewable? It will eventually run out, so why not find a solution to what we are going to do when that happens rather than wait for it to happen and send the country into a panic because we don't have a substitute in place?
And where is this vast underground supply of oil? The only place left where no one goes is Antarctica I can't see oil being found out there.

Is it true that, if we refine 40 gallons of crude oil, we'll get 43 gallons of petroleum products....?

It is perfectly possible even if the numbers are not exactly correct - if a gallon of heavy crude is cracked to lighter gasoline with minimal losses, the volume of the result will be greater even if the mass is about the same because of the change in density. Is it true that, if we refine 40 gallons of crude oil, we'll get 43 gallons of petroleum products....?
Yes, due to expansion of some of the refined products as they are released, you will get around 5% more, in terms of volume.

But, the amount of material in terms of mass (weight) remains the same, since you can't create matter out of nothing.

Should the transport of oil, both crude and refined by super tanker ships, be banned?

Hey guys, this is a question I need to know for a test coming up. Please answer with yes or no and a few points explaining why.

If you don't understand the question too well. I'll break it up for you. (I know, it's worded a little weird)

    ';Should the transport of oil be banned?';

That's what it's really asking, but its naming two other types:

    ';both crude'; (1)

';and refined by super tanker ships'; (2)Should the transport of oil, both crude and refined by super tanker ships, be banned?
From the perspective of a person who might worry about the future of a spill I would say ,,,';HECK YEA';...

but now that i have that out of my system i might take a more logical look at the problem we face...

Our energy system is not one that can be cut off by isolationism. Let take for instance the International oil that is traded to Japan. Japan has no oil production but does have a great need how do they get theirs? WE ship it to them. Most all the crude that leaves the North slopeof Alaska goes to another country..Why ? well we owe them money and because we can derive capital and if they will pay more than you or I the oil guys will sell it to the higher bidder.

Thats the tip of the iceburg for the trade market value for oil. When every one needs a product it just naturally costs more to get it...That's the way capitalism works..Now if we were to ban the transfer of oil to another part of the world by SUPER-TANKER then we would be cutting off the arm that actually feeds us...The ST is by far the easiest most efficient method,,,not including pipeline, to transfer oil. Also since the seas would be full of smaller boats using more energy it would just drive the cost up to do the same job.

So in Effect my answer is ';NO WAY';...We just need the transfer capabilty to stabilize the energy business and to obtain the balance that Global energy consumption has created...If i knew of a way right now to cut the strings with all countries and establish a way to maintain a stable economy AND create energy along the way...I would jump up and down untill the world took notice ...Sorry i cannot do any of these.. Wish you well on your test....From the E...

If we have more oil than we can refine, who鈥檚 fault is that?

It really should be a matter of national security; the U.S. government should build at least a couple of refineries for use in conjunction with our strategic oil reserves; in the event of a real war, not the occupation of a small country half a world away, we need to have some excess refining capacity available.

This does NOT need to be run by oil companies, however. In the event of an emergency, it would be available to process fuel for the general public. Something like that would have been great after Hurricane Katrina. Otherwise, the refineries would be exclusively used to provide fuel for our armed forces and postal service.

This is an important area in which our national defense is severely vulnerable. If we have more oil than we can refine, who鈥檚 fault is that?
I live in Texas. Texas City has had some enormous explosions over the years. Pasadena has a snarky motto that says, ';The Air is Greener in Pasadener.'; No one wants a refinery next to them. Can't put em too far from the oil, but as you might guess, community concerns crop up quite often. If we have more oil than we can refine, who鈥檚 fault is that?
Leftist environmentalists who have bought politicians and convinced them to not build any more refineries or increase production here. Oh, mainly BIll Clinton about a decade ago. Would have been nice to have that oil now Bill, Thanks!
I blame the U.S. government for not having proper regulatory controls on refinary capacity. There is no motivation for the oil companies to increase capacity otherwise.
Why would oil companies build more refineries, which are expensive, if they are doing so well as it is. From their viewpoint, less is more.
Environmental politicians, have been blocking refineries for over 35 years.

The USA imports 25% of it's refined gasoline from 3rd world countries, with no enviromental regulations.
Actually our Congress for putting blocks in the way to refit refineries and to build new ones.
Liberals and environmental whack-jobs who won't let us build more refineries.
Radical environmentalists who keep blocking construction of new refineries.

Couldnt used motor oil be filtered and refined into some sort of fuel or by- product, to lessen the burden on?

The must be billions of gallons a year taken in by oil change buisinesses, etc. I know some of this is filtered and resold as recycled motor oil, but couldnt it be refined into a fuel of some sort, or into the many by-products of raw oil, so more of the raw oil could be used for gasoline. By the way, I have begun making a ';browns gas'; generator that I will use on my truck, that will add hydrogen into my fuel mixture to increase my milage. It uses only water as a supply to make the ';browns gas'; , and will release only water vapor as an exhaust, thereby reducing the normal exhaust from gasoline, as well.Couldnt used motor oil be filtered and refined into some sort of fuel or by- product, to lessen the burden on?
The recycling of motor oil is already pretty well established. Our local place sells theirs to the same place as Wal-mart: it gets trucked to Louisiana where they get the worst of the contaminants out of it and re-sell it as fuel for ships, which can burn darn near anything you can pour into a tank.

There also are or were re-refining operations--small ones--that very large fleet operations use to recycle their motor oil.Couldnt used motor oil be filtered and refined into some sort of fuel or by- product, to lessen the burden on?
Once it was sent back to in oil purification process, and returned to gas stations in special bottles, and sold at discounted reclaimed oil for the crankcase. Navy ships are constantly purifying lubrication oil, and we are talking several barrels, and minimized loss, consumption and leaking. Oil does not wear out, it gets contaiminated. You have something there, it could be converted to fuel for diesel, and would not need a large refinery to be built, so the process could start quickly.
it is being used only not driving with but driven on. Used motor oil is the key ingredient to most asphalt mixtures. 90% of all used motor oil recycled is used in this fashion. there are heating methods for used oil but the emissions are too harsh for the eco friendly environment. Many homes in the early 1940's were heated with oil. As were they heated with coal. no one heats with any of these methods today in there residence but there are a lot of garages and machine shops that do so today. hope this helps.
It is already recycled and in some cases is used as fuel. The amount of oil used is pretty small compared to the amount of gasoline that cars use though. With my oil change schedule I burn about 200 gallons of gas for every 1 gallon of oil changed.
Usually, used motor oil is recycled and used back as motor oil.

Oil is oil...if it were refined and used as fuel, then the price of motor oil would go up as supplies of recycled product would decrease.
Last we knew, places like Walmart and Neal Tire were taking used oil from people who change their own. Check it out in your area, God bless you!
Oil furnaces are LARGELY used in New Jersey homes still. (And a killer for heating at $4.00 a gallon.)
its recycled in many ways...and stop it with the bogus browns gas....

  • When will Americans decide they've had enough and extract and refine their own oil?

American oil is generally not as good quality as arab, venezuelan oil. If we use up all their oil they will have to buy from us. Two reasons there. When will Americans decide they've had enough and extract and refine their own oil?
Democratic liberal conservationists won't let us.

Bush wanted to drill in alaska for oil 7 years ago. Democrats were afraid it would interrupt the mating of the wildlife. They would rather have us depend on our enemies for our oil. And yet Americans want a Democrat for President. They would rather play the blame game. Blame Bush. It works on the public.

Go figure. When will Americans decide they've had enough and extract and refine their own oil?
When democrats and some Republicans stop blocking our efforts to do that.
when they stop the war and concentrate on their own economy that is when the bushman goes back where he belonged
When Democrats in congress are paying $10,000 a gallon for jet fuel.
For me it was in 1995
    Very soon.......i hope.

does not matter too many people feel the govt is all knowing in everything rather than the screwups they really are.

How come Iran never bothered to refine its own oil and now has to import gasoline from Venezuela?

It completely baffles me why a leading OPEC country who knows that by engaging in nuclear weapons research, will suffer from trade sanctions that will completely cut the country off from the rest of the world. Iran has been a target of trade sanctions for as long as I can remember. Yet, never bothered to build refineries prior to engaging or even while engaging in nuclear weapons research, even for its own consumption.

If Iran has the technical capacity and the ability to subvert trade sanctions to keep building nuclear capability (civilian or military) than it stand to reason that they have the ability to build refineries under such conditions. How come Iran never bothered to refine its own oil and now has to import gasoline from Venezuela?
We can build refineries, yes but we have MAD leaders, which their only concern is having power over the people of Iran(which needs money and time) .

Building refineries needs alot of money and is a time consuming process, nothing that can be done in 1 or 2 years, not to mention the increasing consumption rate over time. How come Iran never bothered to refine its own oil and now has to import gasoline from Venezuela?
Iran has refineries but they are not good and old (unsafe). But it is really a political issue more than technical . It also takes a long time to build a refinery and make sure it is safe for operation as this is volatile fuel you are processing and any spark means a huge explosion.
    Outsourcing is cheaper.

GREED!Why is gas expensive especially if it's refined by some oil companies are based in the u.s?
OPEC sets oil prices- and they are not conrtolled by the U.S.
It is called Supply vs. Demand.

It is also called the cost of the supply..

Rather you know it or not, we have not built a NEW refinery in YEARS! it is against the LAW for them to build anymore. It is also against the Law for them to drill in the USA without permission from the Congress or EPA.

Supply vs. Demand. We demand a lot of fuel, yet we have limited resources to make the fuel.

Fuel cost so much when the starting price is at $70 per bbl. Cost starts high, federal tax is included, local tax gets added. HIDDEN taxes that get added by the manufactures of the fuel because all cost get passed on to the end user.

Open up the market to making more refineries and drilling and you will see the terrorist markets close, Hugo Chavez lose his market. and the USA thrive.
Supply and demand, same as marijuana or hardwood furniture from the US.
The united states does not have enough refining capacity to meet the demand of the US economy. In fact we have 2 less refineries now than we had 30 years ago. There is only one new one under construction, I believe in Arizona. It has been years undergoing envoromental impact statements and law suits from various groups. It will be at least one decade before its done.

It will be the last one built in the US ever again.

Get used to it. Oil is not a renewable fuel. At some point we will reach the peak of production. After that all the oil in the world that is easiest to obtain, will be gone. The last half of the oil will be in places like the arctic and deep beneath the sea floor. Very deep. The cost of getting it will go up. At some point it will cost one barrel of oil to get a barrel of oil. At that point, you better have a back up like cold fussion working or someting. Other wise the global economy will collaps. It only functions because oil is cheap now. AS soon as it gets too expensive, goods will no longer ship from here to there. It will just be too expensive. You will travel less. You world will srink to just as far as you can walk or ride a bike.

Once an oil well gets just so low on oil they use a trick called bottle brush drilling. Once a well is drilled in this fashion, thats the end of the well. When the oil runs out its done.

The largest oil field in the world is located in saudi arabia. Its already been bottle brushed. You do the math. The largest oil field in the world is on its way out. What is the long term projection for oil now? No you won't read about it in the news paper. Its not a news story now. It will be at some point.

Further more ALL of OPEC lies like a cheap rug about how much oil they have. It is an opec agreement that they will only ship a certian percentage of the oil they have....in order to ship more oil and make more money, they must fudge the numbers about what they have in the ground. Also a well know fact, also ignored by most every one.

So if you have an estimated 8 billions barrels of oil in the ground and your dictator needs more cash, you announce a new discovery that in fact the oil field is really 10 billion barrels. Now the amount of oil that you can ship is increased and your dictator is happy.

With modern technology we have discovered where just about every drop of oil happens to be. For some reason every now and again inspite of having shipped zillions of barrels of oil over the years the estimates continue to grow. Because the need for ever increasing amounts of cash? You decide.

Some time in the next 20 years oil will get very expensive.

    Supply and demand. Nothing more.
Fuel prices increased about a dollar a gallon from a year ago. Crude prices didn't increase nearly that much, gas station margins didn't increase nearly that much, the reason has to be in the middle. The refiners costs certainly didn't increase much, the distribution costs didn't go up that much. Supply and demand wouldn't have that kind of effect. What's left is the the middle man's margins resulting in the staggering profits reported earlier this year. How could prices increase so radically? Competition should hold them down, but this didn't happen. The pro big business attitudes of the republicans has created an environment of permissiveness and lack of enforcement of anti-trust laws. Anti-trust laws prohibit things like bid rigging, predatory pricing, and price fixing.

What country refines the most oil?

I disagree, it's right here in America in the Gulf of Mexico. I used to work for United Pipe out of Houston, Texas.

They just pump out the crude and send it to our refineries in the Gulf. We also have refineries on the West Coast, New England refineries. The rest is sent up the Mississippi River to Saint Louis. What country refines the most oil?
The world's oil supply comes from a wide variety of sources. While the Middle East (home to the largest OPEC producers) was the largest producing region in 2004, with 29 percent of total world production, North America accounted for 19 percent, with the remaining 52 percent dispersed fairly evenly throughout the globe. OPEC member countries together accounted for about 40 percent of world total oil production in 2004, up from 38 percent in 2003.

According to the chart shown, it is Russia. What country refines the most oil?
Definetely is the USA because they are the top consumer of Oil. Doesn't mean the country richest in oil or the largest exporter of oil will refine most oil.

    It's a common misconception.
    Saudi arabia.

Will a L reg 2.8 pajero diesel, run on the new green diesel (refined veg oil) as its 10p cheeper a liter?

I have a2,8 shogun and its a bit smokey when you accelerate hard, apparently its their nature but i was told to try adding a litre of vegetable oil to a tank of fuel. I tried it and the car was noticeably less smokey. If you run your car on this green diesel, it should have the same affect as this. The only thing i would recomend is that you change the fuel filter more often than usual as the bio diesel is a bit stickier. Will a L reg 2.8 pajero diesel, run on the new green diesel (refined veg oil) as its 10p cheeper a liter?

you can run it on straight cooking oil and it will run perfect, all you have to do is mix 10% white spirit in winter to stop it going all gooey. it works i know someone who runs his vectra on it. you can also collect used oil and use it if you have facilities to filter it.
yes it will also all diesel cars can run off old veg oil if you add a bit of meths.

not recomeded yo run on that though as you can be done for tax evasion
No, if it is refined it will run ok, it may be an idea on an older car to have the engine retuned if you want to use it often, or maybe do a 50/50 between that and normal diesel.

If a New Refinery is built in the United States should it refine Sour Crude oil or Sweet crude oil?

One company wants to alliviate the tight refining capacity according to CNBCIf a New Refinery is built in the United States should it refine Sour Crude oil or Sweet crude oil?
It would probably end up processing sour crude since that's more profitable for the refineryIf a New Refinery is built in the United States should it refine Sour Crude oil or Sweet crude oil?
New refineries should probably be built to process medium sour crude oil because the marginal barrel of new production is medium and sour. Not light, sweet as it has historically been.

    44% to gasoline

    20% to fuel oil

    10% to petroleum gas

8% to jet fuelOf the oil we import or refine how much goes to gas and how much goes to making plastic?
They are different parts of the oil. By refining you are splitting what is useful as fuel (different kinds) and what may be used to make plastics.Of the oil we import or refine how much goes to gas and how much goes to making plastic?
Good question, I would assume that most of it goes for gas, I hope somebody answers with a link so I can find this out also. Thanks for the question.

The net cost to refine a gallon or a barrel of crude of oil not including cost or tax.

A barrel of crude is refined to 19.5 gal. gas, 9 gal. fuel oil, 4 gal. jet fuel and 11 gal lubricants, kerosene, asphalt and petrochemicals, i would like to know the cost in 2008 dollars, excluding cost of a barrel and taxes? The net cost to refine a gallon or a barrel of crude of oil not including cost or tax.
That isn't a simple question. different quality crudes give different costs. and the eff of the refinery certainly has an impact.- but for gasoline it costs typically about 50 cents a gallon to refine it to the current low sulfur requirements.

Unrefined vs Refined Emu Oil. Need help.?

    I'm in a dilemma.

Refined emu oil is safer BUT would it destroy most of its constituents like Essential fatty Acids (EFAs)?

Unrefined evrything intact (EFAs) but bacterial risks? However, isn't it that bacteria can't survive in oil?

Can someone pls enlighten me. Thanks.Unrefined vs Refined Emu Oil. Need help.?
You can get emu oil in 3 different grades:

    1) crude - used for soaps and animal feed products

    2) Once refined - used for industrial purposes

    3) Fully-refined - used for cosmetic, pharmaceutical and dietary supplements.

Fully-refined emu oil is the grade of emu oil you would want to use for skin care. It is the purest and highest quality grade of emu oil.

Fully-refined emu oil has been processed at high temperatures to remove any potential contaminants, such as toxic metals and harmful bacteria.

    More info here: http://www.healthy-oil-planet.com/buying鈥?/a>

*The American Emu Association has done studies and found that high temperatures used to process the emu oil doesn't affect the fatty acid content.

The American Emu Assocation (AEA) is a non-profit organization that provides leadership and guidelines for the emu farming industry in the USA. Members of the AEA practise humane-farming methods. They don't use steroids, antibiotics or hormones on their emus. The emus are raised in a free-range environment.

Emus were historically used for their meat by the Aborigines of Australia. The emu oil (traditionally from the fat pad found on the birds' back) was used as a medicinal balm for sunburn, arthritis and other skin conditions common to the Aborigines living in the hot, Australian desert.

Contrary to some people's opinions, emus are not an endangered species. There are over 1 million emus in emu farms in the U.S. They're also farmed in Canada, New Zealand and China.

The AEA has a certification program for fully-refined emu oil. For emu oil to receive a certification from the AEA, it needs to be analyzed by a certified American Oil Chemist (a member of the American Oil Chemist Society) to meet very stringent standards.

The processing facilities need to be approved by the USDA, FDA or State-approved in order to get AEA-certified.

A sample of every batch of AEA-certified emu oil is kept in case there's a question regarding the purity of the oil.

There are a number of AEA-certified emu oils available from emu farms. This is the only certification process for emu oils in the United States. You can get emu oils that aren't AEA-certified, but you won't know if there is any testing to validate the purity of the oil.

Emu oil is a great natural skin care product. I've been using it for years and am very happy with how well it works for my skin.

Hope this info helps you out!Unrefined vs Refined Emu Oil. Need help.?
I would only use the refined
what are you talking about? oil doesn't come from emus. Even if they did, killing them for their oil would be bad casue they're an endangered species and stuff!

Can we refine black engine oil?

Oil used in the engine of your car (or any other internal combustion engine) is composed of many different components. The largest percentage of the mixture is the base oil, whether it is petroleum or synthetic base oil. The other components of the motor oil are additives used to give the motor oil the desirable properties of low temperature performance, wear resistance, anti-rust capabilities, load carrying properties, oxidation stability, acid reduction additives, and a whole host of other properties. The black color that forms in used motor oil are usually the byproducts of the additives being ';used up';.

It is quite possible, and is routinely done, to recover the base oils from the used motor oil. This is usually done by distillation. The recovered base oil can be used to blend a variety of lubricating oils, but is not usually used to formulate new motor oils. Can we refine black engine oil?
yes it is possible at a refinery plant. because step by step your needing 1- decontamination or filtration 2- atmospheric distillation for low boiling pointed hydrocarbones and gasoline and water 3- fractional distilllation under vacuum. 4- acid treatment and clay contacting and filtration ... the lst step can change with hydrogen or propane distillation

Spectrum actually sells three coconut oils. Two are Spectrum Naturals Organic Refined Coconut Oil and Spectrum Naturals Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil (they come in 14 oz glass jars), and are labeled as culinary oils. The other is Spectrum Essentials Organic Coconut Oil (comes in a 15oz plastic tub), and is labeled for skin and hair care. Our unrefined coconut oils have a distinct coconut flavor and aroma and the refined coconut oil has a neutral flavor for a greater variety of applications. Our Spectrum Essentials Skin and Hair Coconut Oil is edible.

We did a comparative analysis of several different coconut oils and found that the nutritional benefits (such as caprylic, capric and lauric acids) derived from the refined, unrefined and ';virgin'; coconut oils have little variance. The term ';extra virgin'; only applies to olive oil; at present, no authoritative US agency such as the FDA or USDA regulates the use or misuse of the term ';Extra Virgin';.

Can they refine used motor oil and make gasoline out of it? just wondering ?????

I don't think so. Gas (high octane especially) is one of the most refined products we get from crude oil.

The best quality gas has the most octane chain molecules, next regular gas, then diesel, kerosene, heating oil, lube oils and finally the least refined is the tars that are used in asphalt, shingles...

So no, the octane chains needed to make gas just aren't present in quantity in used motor oil.

EDIT: Didn't see funchy's answer while writing mine. She understands the process of refining oil as I also explained. Can they refine used motor oil and make gasoline out of it? just wondering ?????
Not really practical. Crude oil is a mix of all the petroleum products (gas, kerosene, diesel, jet fuel, motor oil, asphault). When it's refined it's seperated into each of these products, and after the product is seperated it can't easy be converted to a lighter oil.

There are plenty of uses for used motor oil that it's not really wasted anyway. Can they refine used motor oil and make gasoline out of it? just wondering ?????
Yes they can. But mostly it is cheaper for them to make Diesel instead of gasoline. And they already do that.

    Good luck...
Probably, but it wouldn't be cost effective. They can and do recycle it into home heating oil though.
    yes...but its not cost effectie

The oils that you have mentioned are used mainly for cooking. They are known to contain unsaturated fats which when hydrogenated lead to formation of harmful saturated fats. Thus, vegetable oils are recommended for cooking.Today, these oils are packed with nutrient like vit a,b,c etc and also contain certain enzymes that can control cholestrol etc. Moreover vegetable oils like Jojoba oils are used foe cosmHi there, can someone tell me for what is used, refine cooking/vegetable oil used for.thanks?
You need to be more specific. There are many types of refined cooking oil. Depending on what you are making, some are better than others. For example, extra virgin olive oil is excellent for making salad dressings. Peanut oil is an excellent stir-fry oil. Clarified butter is great for pan-frying. Rice oil makes and excellent oil for deep frying.
Some people have developed a way to use used cooking oil for some sort of fuel for cars.

Sometimes used restaurant oil or grease is sold to mix in fro making pet or farm animal food, I believe.

    Crude oil Specifications for Refine?

Be more specific! This doesn't really tell me what you want to know.

For example crude oil is refined by fractional distillation, the shorter the hydrocarbon chain length the lower the boiling point (due to induced dipole interactions or van der waals forces) therefore the higher up the fractionating column they get before they cool to a liquid and are tapped off. Each liquid or 'fraction' is not a pure substance but a mixture of hydrocarbons of similar chain lenght for example naptha which has hydrocarbons of four to eight carbons in their chains.

Hope that helps but not sure!Crude oil Specifications for Refine?

Why do cells become insulin resistant? Are they gummed up from too much refined oil or do they have no energy?

a cell's ability to function depends upon it ability to extract and use the chemical energy in sugar. Therefore the source/quality of this sugar is fundamental. A diabetic feeds on refined carbs. Their molecular structure has been de-structed by high heats and thus the energy is dispersed. Are cells resistant because they have no energy to accept the insulin? or do the cells not recognize this form of non-energy? Or are the cells so gummed up they cannot function properly? Or does the problem stem from beta cells? Is their cellular structure also affected by refined carbs or refined oils? Or does the brain not send the right signals because these cells are also disfunctional? What's going on??Why do cells become insulin resistant? Are they gummed up from too much refined oil or do they have no energy?
In type two diabetics, the cell walls become resistant to the action of insulin due to fat buildup in the cell wall structure. This is due to high concentrations of saturated fats and lack of certain natural electrolytes from raw fruits and vegetables. Since cutting back on the animal fats, exercising more, and including plenty of fruits in my diet, my diabetes has reversed to the extent that I no longer have to take any medication. My average sugar level has dropped at least 10 points also. See the diabetes info link under my profile for more helpful information. Why do cells become insulin resistant? • Why cant the army corp of engineers drill & refine oil for use by the military, fed, state and local govt use?

By doing so it would greatly cut demand in this country on over seas oil and/or the (big bad) oil companies that our leaders speak about. Now that our dependantcy on oil has become a matter of ';national security';, I see no reason why the military should not drill and refine domestic oil. Then fed, state, and local governments could get the gas ';at cost';. This would have a two fold result. 1) Decrease US demand for overseas oil, thus lowering price at the pump. 2) Cut into the windfall profits of the oil companies. I say to our Govt that if you dont like how much money the oil companies are making... then go get your own oil.Why cant the army corp of engineers drill %26amp; refine oil for use by the military, fed, state and local govt use?
They'll never be able to do that as long as so many in Congress are playing footsie with environmental lobbying groups. Why cant the army corp of engineers drill %26amp; refine oil for use by the military, fed, state and local govt use?
I suppose they could if they got the equipment, the knowledge to do so, and the man power. It's not like you just go put a hole in the ground and up pops oil. Also it wqould mean the creation of an entirely new government agency, a completely new government budget.

its an organisation of oil producing countries called OPEC who look after the quantity of oil taken out each day.

the workers and all are paid by the individual countries.

why should some one else pay??
The Oil Industry began over 5000 years ago.In the Middle East oil seeps was used in waterproofing boats and baskets, in paints and lighting. The modern oil era began in northwest Pennsylvania in the mid-19th century. The demand for oil was not great.

In 1904 an Armenian businessman, Calouste Gulbenkian reported to the Turkish Sultan Abdukhamid on the oil potential of the Turkish province of Iraq. In 1914 the Irak Petroleum Company (IPC) was formed with capital coming from British and Dutch Companies. In 1928, IPC was redivided : 5% to Gulbenkian, 95% were shared equally between the British (BP), the Dutch (Shell) the French (CFP) and the Americans EXXON and Mobil.

In 1932 Socal (Chevron) struck oil in Bahrain. 1938 marked the major turning point in Middle east oil industry. Gulf and BP Discovered oil in Kuwait and Chevron discovered oil in Saudi Arabia. On that time oil companies had to pay for the local Governments, the Kings or Emires a unique tax called royal tee, the company take all the production. Oil companies made a lot of money until the first oil crisis in 1973.
Oil companies are looking everywhere for more oil...... Refineries will be build where needed. geologists are the ones who find it.
there's many of them...they are now the powerful oil cartel - OPEC organisation of petroleum exporting countries, they controll the prices of oil at their will, this make them responsible for the doubling of oil prices recently...most if not all of the members of OPEC have a nationalised oil industry, this means that their respective government owned and control the oil.

Why do we buy oil from far east when we could drill off shore and bluid refines?

that would make oil as cheap as coalWhy do we buy oil from far east when we could drill off shore and bluid refines?
Good question I have been asking that a long time. Why did we let the EPA shut down the drilling off our coast? I say we shut down the EPA. There is more oil around our parts but the greenie weenies have the laws locked up so we can't drill or refine. Why do we buy oil from far east when we could drill off shore and bluid refines?
We do not have enough domestic oil to support our habit. Also, drilling has a terrible impact on the local environment. The saudi's have basically sold their countries environment out. Should we do the same? I don't think so.

A better question would have been, why do we continue to rely on oil when alternative energy sources are available cheaper, and with less impact on the environment.
Tell it to the congressmen from FL and AK.
There is oil all over the world, but it's most plentiful and easy to pump in the Middle East. There are not many companies here willing to invest the $Millions in capitol equipment needed to pump the volume required to support our appetite for Oil... Even at the current high prices it's still cheaper to import oil from other Countries. There are solutions such as renewable energy sources such as solar %26amp; wind power generation, plant based fules such as Ethanol, etc... but even Ethanol has fixed costs that are very high, (capitol equipment and factory costs), eventually these other fuel options will win out over oil, but it will take time. Until then the best thing we can all do is conserve energy as much as possible to reduce demand.
    Without all the BS...

Because it is Cheaper. No one in thier right mind (and especially someone in business) pays more for a material than they have to. that includes Crude Oil.

Contrary to popler OPINION, its not cheaper off shore, nor could be made a cheap as coal. Sorry but the marketplace rules regardless of what we may think.

    wer
Just wanted to add to the discussion.

I've heard that the crude oil ';quality'; itself is different.

Crude oil from the middle east is ';easier'; to refine into a useful form than other crude oil from other places.

Yes, I also believe we should have made refineries in Alaska and anywhere possible in the US 10 years ago in the name of national security and economical stability.

Btw, the middle east only supplies less than 1/3 of the worlds crude oil.

The US self produces 40% and imports 60% from foreign countries.

Out of the imports, only about 20% comes from the middle east.
Oil under your feet does not mean you can pipe it out easily. It takes a lot of tech. to do so. Will that be more economical than buying from others? Moreover, the terrain and geographical structure in far east is such that makes it easy to get oil from underground.
Where are you planning to drill for oil offshore? We don't have any oil here, except for a tiny bit in Alaska. Unfortunately almost all of the oil is in the middle east. And there is not an unlimited supply of it there.
I'd like to think that we are 'using up THEIR oil first' but that is not the case.

It comes down to money. And environmentalists.

No new refineries have been brought online in this country in over 20 years. The costs, environmental red tape, and the NIMBY factor pretty much kill that idea when it's proposed for an area...

The costs of drilling off shore are tremendous, and the DEEPER water you have to drill in, and the deeper it is under the ocean bed, the MORE expensive it becomes.

In case you were not aware of it, the ';NIMBY'; factor works like this:

We all realize the fact we need a new refinery (or factory, or power plant, or landfill, or whatever).

We STRONGLY SUPPORT that we build one as soon as possible...however Not In My Back Yard...

get the point? Everybody seems to agree that we need new refineries and oil fields, but nobody wants them near where they live!

    NIMBY trumps need.

However, oil will never be as cheap as coal - in an era of declining production and skyrocketing demand, it will never be 'cheap' again.

Is oil expensive to harvest or refine?

it does cost more to refine

  • Is the capacity of a crude oil barrel is 200litres? when refined how much petrol or Diesel is obtained?

One barrel is equal to 158.76 liters, and the amount of Diesel and Petrol, depends upon the quality of crude oil, being processed and also the kind of refinery process.

Hope this is of your help.Is the capacity of a crude oil barrel is 200litres? when refined how much petrol or Diesel is obtained?
There are many differnet crude oil types that will yield a different proportion of diesel. It is also correct that the more complex refineries can convert some of the heavier residue into Diesel to make a higher percentage.

To give you some idea lets pick a middle of the range crude oil for example Brent Crude extracted from the North Sea. In a ';straight run'; scenario i.e. distilled from the crude column only you might get 15-20% diesel. If the refinery had a cracking process and vacuum distillation process then it is possibly to increase this yield by more than double so about 45% absolute tops. This rapidly becomes a very complicated subject because heavier crudes for example from Venezuela may only produce 5% or less and really light crudes from the Caspian Sea can produce 30% straight run.

It also depends on what quality Diesel you require. The higher the quality in terms of Cetane No and Sulphur levels result in a lower yield of diesel from each barrel.

What are the benefits of refined versus highly aromatic peanut? oil?

There is evidence that the refining process may actually remove allergens from the oil, thus eliminating the risk of lethal reactions for those who suffer from peanut allergies.

Why Iran can't refine enough oil to make gasoline?

Iran is refining uranium for nuclear electric plants, but can't process oil to make enough gasoline for internal use, why?Why Iran can't refine enough oil to make gasoline?
refining uranium is really different than refining gasoline.

    they can buy gasoline.

    they cannot buy refined uranium.

somehow, you seem to have bought the idea that the US should have the authority to determine how other countries run their business.

that after terrorists from Saudi Arabia, trained in Iraq, attacked the US -- so we invaded Iraq in retaliation.

some folks would see a problem with that.

other folks seem to think that the US can do no wrong.

unfortunately, almost all of the rest of the world doesn't agree. Why Iran can't refine enough oil to make gasoline?
The technology that Iran is using in their oil industry is extremely out of date. It's become so bad that their oil exports are expected to take a major hit if nothing is done about it.

Sanctions placed on Iran by numerous Western nations is hurting their crude oil industry too.

One also has to question whether Iran's main goal of building a nuclear power plant is for weapons or electricity production.

Can heavy fuel oil be refined into kerosene?

chemistryCan heavy fuel oil be refined into kerosene?
No, the kerosene has already been removed from the heavy fuel oil in the refining process of the crude oil. Further distillation will not yield any significant amount or very little kerosene. Can heavy fuel oil be refined into kerosene?
No but it can be decomposed by cracking.
